Winner of the 143cm section, 10-year-old Wycroft New Dimension, was crowned Champion in the Topham Barnes Show Hunter Pony of the Year on the final day of Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). Owned by Anne McKay, the pony has only been ridden by jockey Jessica Renshaw-Smith for a few months, having sadly lost their 14hh pony. Jessica qualified the bay gelding, who is by Cusop Dimension, at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Jessica’s mother Karen said: “We’ve had him on loan since May. This is our first win at HOYS and what we dream of! He’s such a versatile pony and a real gentleman.”
Jessica, who has also been busy this year taking her AS-Level exams, said: “It’s unbelievable, just like a dream.”
Reserve went to the winner of the 122cm section, and Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh Show, Emma Edward-Brady’s eight-year-old Gryngallt Page Too. The Welsh Section B is by Gryngallt Paris out of Gryngallt Patience, and was ridden by Liberty Rebecca Grota. The 133cm section saw Emma Lister’s Millwood Kaiser Chief in first and the 153cm section went to Helen Wyn Davies’ Whelpley Watchman. First and second placed from all four height sections came forward to contest the Championship.
