North Yorkshire’s Ella Kay and Kilcreene Apollo flew sky-high winning the Pony Silver league 128cm Final
Kickstarting day two of the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships, 9-year-old Ella Kay from York, North Yorkshire takes home the win in the Pony Silver League 128cm Final riding Kilcreene Apollo, an 18-year-old bay gelding owned by Charlotte Reed-Stephenson. The course proved challenging with only four riders going clear in the jump-off, but the combination made some impressive inside turns and finished almost 2.5 seconds ahead of second place.
Winning rider Ella was delighted with her success explaining: “I wasn’t expecting him [Kilcreene Apollo] to be so careful, he got so close to some of the fences, but he did so well!”
The combination has only been together for coming up to a year, and Ella’s mum explained she was “over the moon” for the pair. They plan on competing at Aintree next week, shortly followed by a HOYS qualifier later this month.
The Bronze and Silver Pony/Rider Combination League was introduced by British Showjumping in 2014 and allows all pony riders to be able to track their progress on a regional and national league table.
