New challenge for Becky Whitcombe as FEI 1*/2* Eventing Judge

Dressage and success have always gone hand in hand for Becky Whitcombe and her most recent new challenge is as an FEI Eventing Judge.

As a Distributor of the Sue Carson Saddles range, covering a very wide area from her base just east of Hereford, Becky is well known and has a significant involvement with event riders, having previously ridden to CCI 4* level herself. She explains; “Having focused on training my horse to Grand Prix and getting to List 2 as a dressage judge, Sue Carson suggested that I should now make use of my experience of international eventing and become an FEI Eventing Judge.

“In at the deep end, I did the FEI Official course at Houghton Horse Trials last year and my first Ground Jury invitation was to the CIC 2* European Championships at Aston le Walls. This was a very interesting team competition that Team GB won for the first time. I followed this by judging at Aldon CCI 1* at the end of the season.

“This year, having been accepted as an FEI Judge in January, I judged the CIC 3* at Houghton Horse Trials in Norfolk. An extra class had been put on for those horses not able to compete at the rain-cancelled Badminton or Chatsworth, so there was a high standard of horses, which was really interesting.

“The Glanusk CCI was next, which is my local international horse trial and a fantastic Welsh venue in the most beautiful setting.

“I really enjoy being involved in the eventing world after so many years concentrating on pure dressage. I love the cross country and show jumping. There are great people to work with and they have all been so helpful and encouraging.
