Dodson & Horrell New Treats named – Encouragemints

Dodson & Horrell’s brand new treats were named in a competition won by Sarah Clucas from Clayton-Le-Woods, Lancashire. Now, Encouragemints have started to roll off the production line and are coming to a store near you!

This low calorie, low starch and low sugar minty treat can be fed from the hand, in a bowl or from a treat ball.  The amazing aroma hits you the moment you open the tub and will be just the thing to encourage and reward your horse’s good behaviour!

Encouragemints come in a 4kg resealable tub which is ideal for storing in your feed room and for packing into the lorry to take to events.

A competition to name the new treats was launched at the Dodson & Horrell Bolesworth International Horse Show in July.  Visitors to the stand and followers on social media had the chance to come up with the name of D&H’s new minty treats.  Following the huge success of the competition it was opened again for the duration of the Dodson & Horrell Trailblazers Dressage Championships later that month.

The name Encouragemints was picked from a huge number of entries and as well receiving some of the first treats off the production line, Sarah’s horse Alfie also features on the new product packaging!

Sarah works for the North West Ambulance Service as an Emergency Medical Technician and has been incredibly busy over the last 18 months with the Covid-19 pandemic.  She has had Alfie since June after losing her old horse, Hal at the age of 23, in 2020.  Sarah and Alfie are working towards taking part in Working Hunter Classes this year with a view to doing some Royal International and HOYS qualifiers next year.

“I was very surprised to have won the competition to name D&H’s new treats, I can’t believe it!”  explained winner Sarah. “I entered at the stand at Bolesworth and forgot all about it, so I was shocked to receive the call to say that I had won.  I came up with the name ‘Encouragemints’ as that is exactly what I use treats for with my horse, a bit of encouragement or bribery and with them being mint flavour I thought it worked well. I am sure Alfie will love the new mints and it will be great to see his face on the label!”

“This was a brilliant competition, with a massive number of entries and we love the name Encouragemints, seeing Alfie on the packaging is a joy and Sarah is a really deserving winner with the amazing job she has done in her role with the North West Ambulance Service in the last few years.  It was lovely to tell her the good news and hear how excited she was.  As a sneak preview, we took some Encouragemints on our trade stand at Your Horse Live in November and the visitors loved them, so make sure look out for them in your local store,” commented Lucy Scott, Marketing Manager at Dodson & Horrell.
