British feed company fuels Equestrian Team GBR

The Olympic Games has been Britain’s most successful in modern history and Britain’s equestrian team has made history of its own with a gold in the team dressage, gold and bronze in the individual dressage, gold in the showjumping and silver in the team three-day event.

And the British theme doesn’t end there as British feed company Dodson & Horrell is the official supplier of nutrition to Equestrian Team GBR providing bespoke horse feed and nutritional advice to Team members as they prepared for the London Games.

As well as supporting Equestrian Team GBR, Dodson & Horrell also sponsors two of the riders that competed in this year’s Games: Zara Phillips and Richard Davison.

Dodson & Horrell offers it sincerest congratulations to Zara, Olympic silver medallist as part of the Equestrian Eventing team, and Richard, who competed in the individual dressage event.

This was Richard’s fourth Olympics – an outstanding achievement for the man who has been riding since the age of five and who has become one of the best known and most successful international dressage riders of all time.

Commenting on his Olympic performance, Richard said: “It was a privilege and an honour to compete at the London Olympics. This was my fourth Olympic Games, well actually fifth including Beijing when I was Team Manager, and yet there was something totally unique about this one. It was the best ever, not only because of our results but because the organisation, the volunteers, the soldiers and the spectators were truly outstanding. I cannot ever imagine a better Olympic Games.”

“The venue at Greenwich Park was outstanding and to perform on home soil in front of a home crowd is something l feel very fortunate to have been able to do.”

Chris Gordon, Technical Director at Dodson & Horrell, said: “We are immensely proud to be working with Equestrian Team GBR and are delighted to be supporting Zara, Richard and other leading talents.”

“Their achievement at the Olympics was fantastic and it is wonderful to see our British Equestrian Team succeeding at such a high level.”

Equestrian Team GBR is underpinned by the World Class Programme, enabling future equestrian stars to receive the training and advice they need in order to progress to Senior level competition – giving riders the chance to compete on an Olympic scale.

“We work closely with the vets, physios, trainers and riders who are selected for the Team GBR World Class Programme and offer nutritional advice during squad sessions and yard visits,” Chris added.

“We look at the total ration including forage analysis to pinpoint any imbalances or deficiencies and how these can best be corrected, as well as advising on dietary management such as meal size and time of feeding which can be crucial in terms of feed digestibility and therefore performance.

“Having an extensive range of Dodson & Horrell feeds all manufactured to the BETA NOPS standard to avoid the risk of prohibited substances is a great help when making these corrections.”
