Introducing the Editor, Mrs Louise Graham

Louise was born into a non-equestrian family, except for being related to Amanda Saville, of Chariots of Fire / scurry driving fame. Louise started riding at the age of 7 at the local riding school, St Leonard’s of Toton, and had her first pony when she was 11 years old. A South Notts and Rufford Pony Club member, Louise competed in games and hunter trials, attended PC camp and used to lead out the rides at the riding school where she kept her pony at livery, Bob Davison’s at Cotgrave. On leaving Grammar School, she became a Copywriter (Copywriters come up with the concepts and words for advertisements and commercials etc.) with a very successful advertising agency in Nottingham. This meant forgoing a place she had secured at art college. Following eight years working in the exciting world of advertising, Louise became a freelance copywriter with two designers. Over the years, she wrote thousands of advertisements, brochures and commercials, always striving to be original and creative.

Her dream was also to be able to live where she could keep her pony at home. She hunted with The Belvoir on Saturdays and competed her own horses at local shows, then graduated to county level shows. Over the last decade or two, Louise started writing for various magazines, including Riding Magazine, Northern Horse and a year doing dressage reports for Horse and Hound.

In 1985, Louise decided to try riding side saddle, becoming national novice champion in 1988 and a SSA list judge, then competing at county shows, the Royal Show, the Royal International Horse Show and the Horse of the Year Show. All of this has been done on an extremely tight budget. Louise does her own grooming, mucking-out, ragwort-pulling, tack-cleaning, schooling etc etc.

Working on Equestrian Life Magazine, the region’s equestrian monthly title, from its early days, has meant Louise can combine her equestrian interests with her writing skills.

Louise has also put back into the showing world, by being a show secretary, stewarding at the county show for 30 years and regularly judging. This helps her to see things from all different perspectives. Hopefully this experience and background knowledge shows in the magazine.

Zoe Molesworth

zoeZoe Molesworth got her first pony at the age of 5 and never looked back. A keen rider, she was a member of the South Notts and Belvoir Pony Clubs, and enjoyed competing and hunting as often as possible. Before taking over Equestrian Life Magazine, Zoe had a varied career, spending 10 years in London working for blue chip companies before moving to Calgary, Canada where she worked for a leading firm of Investment Brokers in the Oil business for two years. Returning to the UK, Zoe was a Product Manager for a well-known Chocolate confectionery company but her love of the outdoor life led to the purchase of the business back in 2001. Zoe still rides and competes regularly with her Welsh Section D ponies and can be seen out hunting over the winter with her daughter, herself a keen equestrian.
