She is due to appear in other episodes in the current series.

Diane is a Major Trauma and Emergency Medicine Consultant at the NHS Royal Stoke Hospital, which is where the series is exclusively filmed.

“We are very lucky to have Dr Di as our CMO,” said Claire Williams, BETA’s Executive Director. “She’s hugely passionate about educating riders and making the sport safer, and is real asset to the industry. But seeing her ‘in action’ was a real eye opener. It makes you appreciate what our amazing NHS is faced with every day and how important it is to report accidents and injuries accurately. Being able to have Di working with us, using her knowledge of trauma combined with her own understanding of equestrians and our sport is invaluable. We’re so grateful to all the amazing people within the NHS for helping so many equestrians each year, and we are working hard to do our bit to make these visits less frequent from riders. I can’t wait to see the rest of the series.”

‘It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the team from Channel 5 and so motivational to actually see the work we do, I am inspired by my team and the patients I see every day,” said Diane. “The feedback has blown me away, I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to appear on the show.

“I thoroughly enjoy my role with BETA. I am able to use my medical skills and trauma knowledge to support industry and get directly involved with the safety standards in a sport I love.

“Bottom line- our sport is dangerous. We see life-ending and significant changing injuries and it’s heart breaking when outcomes may have been different if the appropriate protection had been worn or if bystanders had known what to do immediately after an accident. I hope I am starting to bridge that knowledge gap with All the King’s Horses’ social media pages and by supporting BETA.

“One thing’s for sure, I love TV work. Who knows what’s next…I’ve had some interesting offers so watch this space!”

The series continues on Channel 5 at 9pm each Thursday. For more information, see https://www.uhnm.nhs.uk/about-us/999-critical-condition/
