Lancashire based Oakhill Veterinary Centre open the doors of their state of the art MRI system.
Equine Vet and European Specialist, Guy Hinnigan, has welcomed Oakhill’s first equine MRI client Mr Potts, owned by Mrs Sheena McLoughlin, into their new standing equine MRI system (main picture).
This latest addition to Oakhill’s extensive diagnostic facilities, installed in November, is the leading tool in diagnosing lameness and identifying the specific cause in over 90% of cases, helping ECVS diploma holders, Rosie Owen and Guy Hinnigan, to target treatment and obtain more satisfactory outcomes.
Supplied by award winning UK manufacturer Hallmarq (world leaders in veterinary specific MRI systems), the MRI system shows both bone and soft tissue, whereas x-rays show only bone only and ultrasound shows only soft tissues.
The benefits of standing MRI are huge as it can be done under standing sedation, reducing both the time, expense and significant risks associated with general anaesthetic.
This latest imaging tool complements the outstanding existing facilities at Oakhill, in particular, the recently installed 20m by 40m premium surface arena, which allows ridden assessment.
Oakhill’s key location, in the heart of Lancashire, means that horse owners and veterinarians across the North West now have easy access to the standing MRI system, which is already experiencing high demand.
The news of Oakhill’s recent developments was extremely well received at their recent Equine Client Evening, attended by 150 people. Previously clients would have had to transport their horses many miles to access such facilities.

Some years ago my Connemara Blue was treated for navicular syndrome. The treatment he received was excellent and he recovered and remained sound for a number of years. He sadly died 6 years ago this Christmas just a couple of months before his 24th birthday. He was in retirement when we relocated to southern Ireland. I wonder, is Alistair with Oakhill?
This is awesome. Congrats.
